| The Vila Sarney church meets in this house. |

"We have some exciting news!" wrote John and Ruth Navis, leaders
of this mission to a large coastal city in northeast Brazil. "A
new congregation was started on Sept. 14 in Vila Sarney, as 11
members in the church live in that area of the city. The first three
Sundays had 15, 20 and 22 people. We have been praying about
starting a second congre-gation and finally the time seemed right.
We meet in seu Joao's mud-walled, thatched-roof house. With his
broken leg, it is easier to meet there than any other place right
now."
"I have a new evangelistic study
with a young man named William," John wrote. "Our study is at 7
a.m. before he goes off to work." John leads three other early
morning studies per week in people's homes. "Tues. is 1 John,
Wed. is Isaiah, Thurs. is Hebrews, Friday is Romans. Then I still
have another study on Sat. in Hebrews and Matthew."

"The men's meeting continues at 6 a.m. on Sat. We are still
going through Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life.
We also finished up the book of James. A young man, Daniel, has
joined the group and Carlos has left the group because of his work
schedule. He starts work at 6:30 am."
"My Wed. night study is going well but there are no new decisions
from other family members yet. We are going through the book of Acts chapter by chapter. So far one of the six members has made a
decision."
"Rousaniel and I have finished with the Gospel of John in Greek
and have started in 1 John. He is doing really well both in Greek
and preaching. He's started teaching Greek to three young people
in the church. He is a very gifted young man. Pray that all
will continue to go well with him." Another group of Greek
students begins in Jan.

"Ruth has a few new studies with young adolescents. My study with
Aniela is going well. I started studying with her earlier this year
and she is presently taking care of the girls' meeting. The group
has gone from just four when I had the meeting to 20 now.
"She is also inviting her friends and relatives that are from an
upper middle class group to a meeting Tues. nights at her house.
They are rather skeptical of the Bible's worth. I can try to show
them that the Bible can be relied upon. From there we hope to
convince them to be followers of Jesus. Most are involved in
Spiritism or some Eastern religion especially from India, others
would say that they are Atheists. Most would say that Jesus was a
great man and teacher but never said that he was the Son of God."

Praise God for:
* the new church & diligent workers.
Please pray for:
* "the church
here: Aniela has great zeal and has gotten involved a lot, but the
vast majority are very disinterested in doing things. The everyday
struggles of life seem
to be overcoming
their zeal."
* the new church in Vila Sarney: "great potential for growth in
this part of the city."
