Russia - Rex Wolfe
The Wolfes attended Alexander and Katya’s wedding in a Russian Orthodox Church.
Gateway: Moscow, Russia "Different ones have asked us if the brief war in Georgia has had any effect on us in Moscow," Rex Wolfe wrote. "We're relieved to report that we haven't felt any reason to be anxious, even though we are Americans.  At least some of the people we talk to have very strong convictions about the justification for Russia taking military action.  America's role in arming the Georgians doesn't make our country very popular.  Even so, people haven't treated us differently than before."
"Alexander and Katya have attended our home group for the last two years," Rex and Sue wrote.  "They invited us to their wedding on Aug. 3 -- a great cultural experience!"
"Usually in Russia, the summer months are for traveling or spending time at one's dacha or away from Moscow.  Even so, we were able to begin two new study groups."

"Alexander, the newlywed, asked us to teach a Bible class in English to his students. Three young women attended our study from Luke. None of the three had ever read a Bible. One says she is Muslim and has read the Koran. Even so, she was eager to listen and learn about Jesus. Alexander has told us that his students need Christian teaching.  We gave each woman a Russian Bible in modern language.  They were thrilled and hugged them.  It was moving to see their reactions to the Bible."

"Another group had four fellow teachers at our English language school. We wanted to offer a class in English that would be relevant to their lives. We chose the book The Five Love Languages, which uses Biblical principles to explain how we can show Christ-like love to others." This class let the teachers "tell about their own lives and the issues they are dealing with. They asked that we offer the class again in the fall so other teachers can attend. Each one even said they wanted to attend again!"

"The church also sponsored an outreach project in Sept. using the book The Five Love Languages in the Russian language. We challenged each family to recruit a non-churched guest or couple to join us."

"Our goal always is to bring people into home groups and then encourage them to worship with us. Peace to Your Home Church had several visitors in the fall."

Home groups "meeting now include one in our home, young mothers with Ira Nazarova (wife of our preacher), young adults, some church women meeting with Rosa, and another group of un-churched women who meet with Valentina."

Two church families living in southern Moscow are planning to start a home church. One family has a huge living room that could fit 80. They'll look for a minister in 2009.

"Recently we met a Russian pastor who works with Campus Crusade for Christ. He wants to assist our church in whatever ways he can. One suggestion is a teacher training class; he also volunteered to assist us to do outreach work in our region of the city."

"We appreciate partnering with CCC in this work. Together we are making a difference in Moscow."
